Hello everyone! Get ready for a thrilling journey into the world of DIY furniture makeover! Four years ago, when we relocated from Sharjah to Ras al Khaimah, we wanted to ditch our old furniture and replace it with new ones, which evidently was an expensive idea. Spending too much money was not our plan, yet we desperately needed to replace the old ones with decent and neat ones. Usually, we don’t think twice while buying stuff and we’ve had our fair share of impulsive shopping sprees, leading to a pile of unwanted items and a significant drain on our finances.
One day, I was sitting on my couch and going through the Instagram accounts that display adorable interiors. Most of the decors were DIYs. I didn’t waste my time there and quickly searched for some furniture DIYs. The top result that popped up was ‘old furniture makeover using paint’. Our dining table was small, made of plywood and, the wood on the tabletop was almost faded. From the DIYs, the best option for us was to paint and accessorize.
I searched for the appropriate paint to retouch my table and finally found Jotun Fenomatic Pure Color Paint in the colour ‘Warm Blush’, which was a matte shade. The guy in the paint shop recommended that it was the best long-lasting paint, and it was unconditionally suitable for furniture. Additionally, It didn’t need the primer, which was a huge advantage.
Let’s move on to the procedures!
Step 1: Sanding
Firstly, I sanded the legs of the chairs and the tabletop. It was the most difficult as well as the most boring part of the makeover.
Step2: Painting
Once I finished the sanding, I cleaned the furniture and proceeded to paint. Painting the furniture was extremely therapeutic.
Step 3: Accessorizing
I didn’t want my furniture to be massively accessorized, and my main intention was to make the furniture last longer. To protect the paint from fading, I threw some tie cushions, and I placed clothes on the upper part of the chairs.
I wanted to protect my tabletop from the heat and the stains but, still wanted to display the colour. Hence, I threw a transparent table cover and accessorized the top with funky Placemats.
Today I use the table for dining as well as for work when our office desk gets occupied.
All because of the current situation. Sigh!
I’m so happy and grateful that I could do the whole makeover at a low price. I purchased most of the accessories from Rak Palace and Day-Today (1 to 10 shops). Also, Jotun Paint was for 60 AED only. Nothing came easy, and the whole process took about one week to complete, including 3 days of muscle pain (wink wink).
I hope the blog gives you a tiny inspiration if you are planning for a furniture makeover, especially if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. I would suggest you explore the best DIY renovation options available before dumping your old furniture. If you liked the post, please do comment down below. Godspeed!!!!
