Easy DIY Natural Skincare and Haircare

Hear me out! Skincare and self-care need not be expensive. Taking some time to do the research, you will be able to discover numerous DIYs that require natural ingredients and can be carried out at the convenience of your home. Regarding skincare and haircare, I find it hard to trust shop-bought ones. Shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, scrubs, and sunscreen are the exceptions. I despise experimenting with different chemical formulas on my skin or hair. The following are some of the DIY skincare and haircare practices I have benefited from over the years.

1. Oats-Curd/Yogurt Face Mask 

Oats have rich antioxidant properties which delay the ageing of the skin and help repair the damage done to your skin by environmental pollution, UV rays, and other harmful chemicals. The curd/yoghurt comprises lactic acid that moisturizes the skin and makes your skin soft. The Oats-Curd face mask cleanses the face and removes tan/sunburn.

Preparation
Powdered oats – 3 tablespoons

Curd/yoghurt – 2 tablespoons

Mix the above to make a thick paste. Apply the facemask and wash it off after 20 minutes.

2. Chickpea Flour-Curd/Yogurt-Turmeric Facemask

Chickpea flour possesses cleansing as well as exfoliating properties and, turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components. The mixture cleanses the skin thoroughly and provides a glow.

Preparation

Chickpea flour – 2 tablespoons

Turmeric – 2 teaspoons

Curd/Yogurt – 1 & 1/2 tablespoons

Mix 2 tablespoons of chickpea flour, one teaspoon of turmeric, and 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of curd/yoghurt. Apply the facemask for 20 minutes and wash it off using cold water.

3. Curd/Yogurt and Lemon Hair Mask for Dandruff Control

The Citric acid in lemon cleanses the scalp and tightens the hair follicles. The curd provides nutrients to the hair and gives it a shiny texture.

Preparation

Curd/Yogurt – 2 teaspoons

Lemon – 1

Add the juice of 1 lemon to two tablespoons of curd/yoghurt. Apply to your scalp and wash your hair after 15 minutes, using a mild shampoo and conditioner.

4. Egg and Olive Oil Hair Mask

The egg yolk moisturizes hair and is apt for your hair as it’s rich in Vitamins. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and helps sustain hair and scalp health. My hair is always frizzy, and this hair mask helped my hair look soft and gave me a voluminous look. 

Preparation

Olive oil – 1 tablespoon

Egg – 1

Mix one tablespoon of olive oil into one egg. Beat it well and apply the mixture to the hair as well as the scalp. Wash it off using a mild shampoo and conditioner.

5. Tan/Sunburn Removal with Tomato

The acid and potassium in tomato juice restore the glow of the skin.

Preparation

Tomato – 1

Cut a tomato in half, rub directly on the skin and keep it for 20 minutes. Wash it off using cold water.

6. Rice Water for Hair Conditioning

The Amino Acid and Vitamins in rice water help accelerate hair growth. They also condition the hair.

Preparation

Soak the rice overnight and take the water out or, you can boil the rice in water and extract the residual liquid.

Apply the rice water for 20 minutes and wash it off using cold water.

7. Fenugreek – Rice Water Hair & Scalp Mask

Fenugreek has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help control dandruff and scalp irritations.

Preparation

Fenugreek – 3-4 tablespoons

Soak the fenugreek in rice water overnight and make a thick paste. Apply it on the scalp as well as the hair. Wash it off using a mild shampoo and conditioner.

8. Rice Flour and Honey Face Scrub

Rice flour has anti-ageing properties, and honey has antibacterial properties. The mixture helps the restoration of the glow of your skin, as well it ignites the rejuvenation of the skin.

Preparation

Rice flour – 2 tablespoons

honey – 1 tablespoon

Mix 2 tablespoons of rice flour with one tablespoon of honey to make a thick paste. Apply the paste for 20 minutes, gently scrub the face and clean it off using cold water.

All the natural skincare/haircare techniques mentioned above are absolutely worth a shot, and you’ll begin to notice the positive changes in no time. Having said that, make sure to repeat these methods at least once a month for the best and most consistent results.
